In 2019, Print Printers embarked on a complex and ambitious project: crafting a full-color journal with hard case concealed wire-o binding. This unique design challenge eliminated many potential vendors, but the client ultimately chose Print Printers due to our design expertise and cost management capabilities.
Pre-Production Phase: Ideation Stage
The project began amidst the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite ongoing revisions, Print Printers proactively reviewed PDF files and produced a digitally printed, hand-bound mock-up copy—without a signed contract or initial payment. This allowed the client to visualize the final product early in the process.
One key challenge during this phase was perfecting the cover design, particularly ensuring the spine worked well with the concealed wire-o binding. After multiple iterations and adjustments to the Adobe InDesign files, the design was successfully refined, preparing it for production.
Production Phase
As production was about to begin, the lockdown in India delayed operations, with team members returning to their hometowns. Despite these setbacks, Print Printers maintained open communication with the client, ensuring they were informed every step of the way. Production resumed as soon as restrictions eased, with blue line proofs delivered on time and a fully bound sample copy—exceeding client expectations.
During production, another challenge arose: the images provided had excessive ink coverage, which wasn’t caught during pre-production. Print Printers worked closely with the client to make necessary adjustments at our own cost, ensuring production continued smoothly, finishing just three days behind the original 35-day schedule.
Shipping and Delivery
To further exceed expectations, Print Printers arranged express shipping of multiple advance copies at no extra cost. Despite minor delays caused by international shipping complications during the pandemic, the books arrived in excellent condition, individually shrink-wrapped and securely packaged to prevent damage.
